Identification numbers

VIN structure

Improvement of let-out production is continuous process of any line production. Thus, except for cases of large changes of a design of models descending from the conveyor, results of process of updating in the operation manual on the car are not shined. However, the manufacturer makes out number lists of let-out spare parts in view of what special value upon purchase of the last is gained by information coded in identification numbers of the car. Doing the order for a necessary spare detail, try to provide to the seller fuller information on the car. Surely report the model name, year of release, and also number of a body and the power unit.

  1. Number of the chassis is beaten out on the forward panel of a body of the car.
  2. Number of the engine is beaten out on the block of cylinders.
  3. The plate with number of transmission is fixed from above a transmission case.
Do not confuse transmission number to engine number.


Chassis number on a forward cross-section beam of a body (over a radiator) is absent.

On some updatings of the car of number of the chassis and the engine are duplicated on the plate which is attached to a forward board of a body.

On other updatings of the car the plate with number of the chassis is on a forward cross-piece of a body (over a radiator).

Some options of execution of the car provide an arrangement of the certified plate at a back end face of a driver's door.


The certified plate at an end face of a driver's door is absent.

Identification number of the car (VIN)

This extremely important number is beaten out on a back partition of an impellent compartment, and also on шильде, fixed on the dashboard under a windscreen from the driver's party of the car. VIN also is brought in PTS and the log. In number information on a date/place of release and type of a body of the car (see an accompanying illustration) is ciphered.

Code of the engine and year of release of model

Two main components of VIN are the code of year of release of model and a code of the line of the assembly/body/engine.

Considering from left to right, the 4th, 5th and 6th positions of number belong to a code of the line of the assembly/body/engine. So, the Civic models are defined by the following combinations:

   EJ6 = 3-door/D16Y7
   EJ7 = 2-door/D16Y5
   EJ8 = 4-door/D16Y8

For the Integra models combinations are characteristic:

   DB7 = 4-door/В18В1
   DB8 = 4-door/В18С1
   DC2 = 3-door/В18С1, В18С5
   DC4 = 3-door/В18В1

The tenth position of VIN defines year of release of model:

   R= 1994
   S= 1995
   T = 1996
   V= 1997
   W= 1998

Engine number

Engine number without which it is impossible to manage at the order of spare parts for the power unit is located on the right (from the passenger party of the car) on the block, near a final collector. The first five positions of number define an engine code. In the real Management the models equipped with engines of the following four types are considered:


   D16Y5 = 1.6 l, SOHC, 16-klapanny, VTEC à
   D16Y7 = 1.6 l, SOHC, 16-klapanny
   D16Y7 = 1.6 l, SOHC, 16-klapanny, VTEC


   В18В1 = 1.8 l, DOHC, 16-klapanny
   В18С1 = 1.8 l, SOHC, 16-klapanny, VTEC
   В18С5 = 1.8 l, DOHC, 16-klapanny, VTEC

Transmission number

This number is required at the order of spare parts for repair of the transmission line. On equipped RKPP models number of transmission is beaten out on a coupling dome, near a starter. On models from AT number is located on the right in a forward part of a case of transmission, near measuring щупа. On the models equipped with CVT, number is on a vertical platform, also close measuring щупа.
