System of anti-blocking of brakes (ABS) – the general information and codes of malfunctions

General information

When the vehicle is equipped with brake system of usual type, sharp squeezing of a pedal of a foot brake leads to blocking of wheels. Coupling of a protector with a paving is thus broken, and the car can go yuzy, having lost controllability. The system of anti-blocking of brakes (ABS) is urged to prevent premature blocking of wheels, continuously operating speed of their rotation during braking at the expense of modulations of pressure of hydraulic liquid in each of brake mechanisms.

ABS consists of two main subsystems: electric and hydraulic. Four sensors of speed of rotation of wheels, the processor of management and a set of connecting electroconducting enter into an electric part of system. The hydraulic part includes the pressure modulator, supports of disk brake mechanisms and components connecting among themselves hydraulic lines.

The principle of functioning of system is rather simple. Each of wheels is equipped with the individual sensor of turns. The sensor consists of a rotor (a ring with teeth evenly located on its perimeter) and a sensitive element in the form of the podmagnichenny coil. The sensitive element of the sensor fixes the moments of passing of teeths of a rotor by it and will transform received information to the electric signals which are continuously transferred to the processor of management of ABS. By results of processing of arriving signals the processor receives information on relative speed of rotation of each of wheels. While all four wheels rotate with identical frequency, ABS stays in a passive condition. As soon as any of wheels starts to be blocked, the processor fixes change of an entering signal and develops command for operation of the modulator which is instantly dumping pressure of hydraulic liquid in the brake mechanism of the corresponding wheel. As soon as normal rotation of a wheel is restored, the processor stops modulator functioning.

Actually the scheme of functioning of ABS is much more difficult, than it can seem, therefore originators of the real Management do not recommend to owners of cars to make attempts of independent performance of repair of system. In case of malfunctions it will be most reasonable to address to specialists of car-care center.

Reading of codes of malfunctions of ABS

1. At engine start the control lamp of ABS on an instrument guard of the car should join quickly and almost at once again to go out. If because of any violation the lamp remains included after implementation of start of the engine, the ABS processor writes down the corresponding digital code in memory of the block of self-diagnostics. For reading of a code by a control lamp:
   a) Liberate the tip of the diagnostic socket from the cover located under a ware box (see. Head of the Control system of the engine);
   b) Connect two contacts of the socket by a wire crossing point.

1. Include ignition (the engine do not start). Two seconds later after a key povorachivaniye in the situation ON the ABS processor will start to give out the codes of malfunctions written down in his memory, appealing a blinking of a control lamp of ABS on an instrument guard of the car. The highlighting of codes begins duration of 3.6 seconds with a pause. Then the sequence of impulses of the first of written down in memory of the processor of a code (a series of blinkings of the main code, then, after a second pause, – a series of blinkings of an additional code [if that is provided]) stands out. Further, after a five-second pause, the combination of codes (the main and additional) the second malfunction, etc. is highlighted. The system allows to read out any quantity of codes. Having written down only a few information, compare it to the card of codes provided on the accompanying table.

2. If you lost count when reading codes, switch off ignition, then again include it and begin anew. Do not forget that any repair of ABS should be made by specialists of car-care center.

Cleaning of memory of the ABS processor

After elimination of the revealed malfunctions in system memory of the processor should be cleared.

The Civic models (and Integra since 1998 вып.)

1. For cleaning of memory of the processor remove a wire crossing point from plugs of the diagnostic socket, then not less than for three seconds take ABS B2 safety lock on 15 And from the car of the assembly block established in an impellent compartment. Insert into place a safety lock and connect to a cover the tip of the diagnostic socket.

1. Without removing a wire crossing point, switch off ignition, then squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake and again turn the ignition key in the situation ON. When the control lamp of ABS on an instrument guard will go out, release a pedal – the lamp should join again. Again squeeze out a pedal and wait lamp shutdowns. Release a pedal.
2. The control lamp should blink twice, confirming cleaning of memory of the processor then it is possible to switch off ignition, to remove a wire crossing point and to restore initial connection of the diagnostic socket.
