Removal, check of a condition and camshaft installation

Check axial люфта and lateral palpation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check axial люфта is made as follows:
   a) Establish a camshaft in the engine and fix it covers of bearings;

   b) Fix a tsiferblatny measuring instrument on a head of cylinders, having rested it a plunzher against a shaft end face (see an accompanying illustration);

   c) Having used as the lever a big screw-driver, take away a shaft against the stop back and null a measuring instrument, then push a shaft forward and consider instrument reading;
   d) Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications;
   e) The excessive size axial люфта speaks about wear of a camshaft, or a head.
2. For check of lateral palpation:
   a) Lay the camshaft removed from the engine in two V-shaped prisms, then press a plunzher of a tsiferblatny measuring instrument to a neck of the central bearing and measure palpation size at shaft rotation;
   b) Compare results of measurement to requirements of Specifications;
   c) At excessive fight the camshaft is subject to replacement.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Uncover heads of cylinders (see. Removal and installation of a cover of a head of cylinders).
2. Bring the piston of the first cylinder into situation VMT (see. Reduction of the piston of the first cylinder in the provision of the top dead point (VMT)).
3. Remove the ignition distributor (see. Head engine Electric equipment).
4. In case of need turn out a bolt of fastening of a cogwheel of a camshaft for the purpose of removal it from a pin.

For the purpose of shaft blocking from a provorachivaniye pass a screw-driver through one of openings in a cogwheel.


5. Remove assembly of yokes (see. Removal, check of a condition and installation of assembly of yokes). If covers of bearings of a camshaft are subject to removal from assembly, they are necessary for marking as installation (put down labels asymmetrically for a guarantee of the correct orientation of covers).

6. Take a cranked shaft (see an accompanying illustration).

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check bearing gangs of a shaft and internal surfaces of covers of bearings on existence of scratches and задиров. In case of detection of serious defects the head of cylinders is subject to replacement on new or restored. By means of the calibrated plastic wire (Plastigauge set) measure size of working gaps in bearings. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications.

Instructions on using a set of Plastigauge are provided in Installation of a cranked shaft and check of working gaps of radical bearings and Installation of shatunno-piston assemblies and check of size of working gaps in shatunny bearings of a cranked shaft of the Part the General and major maintenance of the engine of the present Chapter. If the gap of any of bearings falls outside the limits an admissible range, replace a camshaft.


2. Estimate degree of wear of cams of a camshaft:
   a) Attentively examine forming surfaces of working ledges of all cams, checking them on existence of scratches, задиров and signs of non-uniform wear;
   b) In case of detection of defect though one of cams replace a camshaft. Do not forget about need of identification of causes of wear – check impellent oil on presence of particles of an abrasive at it. Check passableness of the oil pump and all маслотоков (wear of liftings of cams appears more often it is connected with pollution of oil or violation of its giving);

   c) By means of a micrometer measure height of cams (see an accompanying illustration). Compare results of measurements, in case of need replace a camshaft.

3. Check working surfaces of yokes of a drive of valves on existence of signs of wear, attritions, cavities and other defects.
4. In case of identification of any of listed above defects it is necessary to check a condition of impellent oil and serviceability of its giving in a head of cylinders. Having only revealed and having eliminated a cause of infringement start installation of replaceable components (a head, a camshaft or assembly of yokes).

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Carefully clear a camshaft, beds of its bearings in a head of cylinders and covers, and also yokes of a drive of valves. Try to remove completely the slightest traces шлама and dirt. For rubbing of components use only pure, неворсящуюся rags.

2. Grease cams and bearing necks of a camshaft with special assembly greasing (see an accompanying illustration).


If not carefully to grease a shaft before installation, it can lead to serious damages of bearings and cams in the first seconds after engine start prior to the beginning of normal circulation of oil.


3. Accurately lower a camshaft in a head of cylinders. Having used as an opravka a face head of the corresponding size or a piece of a pipe of suitable diameter, plant on the regular place an epiploon tore (the open party with the spring established in a groove inside).
4. Establish into place assembly of yokes (see. Removal, check of a condition and installation of assembly of yokes).
5. Having turned a shaft as appropriate, put on its forward pin a cogwheel (“UP” marking at 12 o'clock).
6. Establish a belt of a drive of GRM and accompanying components (see. Removal, check of a condition and installation of a gas-distributing belt and cogwheels of a drive of GRM).

If in the course of head service the provision of a cranked shaft was brought down, take care at belt installation of alignment of adjusting labels of its cogwheel (see. Removal, check of a condition and installation of a gas-distributing belt and cogwheels of a drive of GRM).


7. Turn out spark plugs and turn a cranked shaft manually, checking correctness of installation of phases of a gazoraspredeleniye. Through two turns adjusting labels of the gear should return to a starting position. Otherwise remove a belt and achieve demanded combination of labels.

If in the course of a provorachivaniye of a cranked shaft there will be a resistance, procedure should be stopped immediately!


8. Further installation is made as it should be, the return to an order of dismantle of components.
